 HISTORY OF THE REX

The REX Theatre, built in 1922, is a historic building located in downtown Pensacola. It's first tenant was Rhodes Furniture. The building was refitted in the 1930s as a movie theater.  It was owned by the Saenger Amusement Co., which also operated the Saenger and Isis theaters in Pensacola.  The REX was closed for more than 20 years and was in need of extensive repair and renovation when Harvest Outreach acquired the REX at the end of 2012 with plans of restoring the historic landmark to its former glory. Now completely restored, the REX Theatre serves as a venue for Generation Church, for small-scale live theater, stand-up comedy (featuring America's best comics as seen on HBO, Last Comic Standing, Netflix, & Comedy Central), Comedy Magic by The Illusionist Tom Coverly (as seen on ABC, CBC, FOX, NBC & has entertained numerous celebrities including; cast of Batman vs Superman, Duck Dynasty & C.SI. NY just to name a few), Jazz & Blues concerts and other special events.

NOTE:    Generation Church nor its sponsors do not necessarily condone the views and opinions of the entertainers or any outside party that rents The REX. These are NOT church sponsored events.  However, we ask that our comedians adhere to the following; NO vulgarity, NO "F" bombs & NO explicit content. Not all our shows are G-rated, but none of our shows are R-rated.
